Time is running out to pre-enter one of the toughest and most underrated sportives on the UK calendar, the two-day Forest of Dean Classic, taking place in Monmouth over the early May bank holiday weekend - 3 & 4 May 2015.

This year will be the eleventh consecutive edition of the Forest of Dean Classic Sportive, which for the first time is becoming a two day event. Pre-entries close TODAY - 30 April - with any thereafter incurring a £5 surcharge.

Based from Monmouth town centre, the Monmouthshire Challenge will kick things off on Sunday 3 May, and the popular Forest of Dean Spring Classic will round off proceedings on Monday 4 May.

The new event - the Monmouthshire Challenge - is a testing 62 mile (100km) route through the county taking in some of the 2014 British Road Race Championship route. This is perfect for those wanting a less strenuous sportive than the traditional hilly Classic, or a great warm up for it, and at £15 must be one of the cheapest sportives in the UK.

Monday's centrepiece Forest of Dean Classic will have two challenging courses through the stunning Monmouthshire and Gloucestershire countryside. The original idea for the event was as training for the big continental sportives, so expect a tough day in the saddle.

The shorter 62 mile (100km) route takes in most of the traditional route but with a much more forgiving eight climbs instead of 20. Nevertheless, riders will still have to struggle up the iconic Symonds Yat. With over 6000ft of climbing on this route it's still a tough day out so don't be fooled by the shorter distance.

The Classic 90 mile (145km) route is a tough, very hilly ride through the beautiful Forest of Dean with 20 individual climbs counted down over the length of the course. The climbing starts right from the off, and clocks up to over 8000ft in total. Broadwell and Bulls Hill are just two of the many climbs along the way, but the real test is the 25% grind of Symonds Yat which comes less than 10 miles from the finish.

The start / finish for both days is at Vauxhall Fields, a few minutes' walk from Monmouth town centre with plenty of free parking and camping on site. All routes will be fully signed, have well stocked feed stops, timing, mechanical back up from Shimano on route and at the start/finish and a broom wagon should all else fail. Free tea, coffee and porridge will be available to riders at the start, and a free snack and award will be given to all finishers.

Separate entries are available for each day or ride both and receive a discount. For more details and to enter visit the Wheels in Wheels Events website: www.wheelsinwheels.com.
