Over 33.000 people applied for a place in next year's Maratona Dles Dolomites - an event record - and the names of the lucky 9,000 who have secured a place via the ballot have now been announced.

The success and popularity of the Maratona seems to know no bounds. The record number of applications came from 89 different countries, 109 out of the 110 Italian provinces and over 4,000 from women.

The thirtieth edition of the event will take place on Sunday 3 July 2016.

The numbers are staggering and show how the event - set in the heart of the Dolomites - is a truly international affair. The names of the lucky riders who have secured a place have now been published on the official Maratona website www.maratona.it

Missed out on a place? Fear not, as a second wave of 193 places have just gone on sale. Available at a higher price, the proceeds of these places (after deducting the entry fee of €110) will go to charity.

The price breakdown is as follows: 175 Gold registrations (€250), 15 Platinum registrations (€500) and 3 Crystal registrations (€1,500).

The charities that will benefit are the Association of Groups "Insieme si può" Onlus/NGO (www.365giorni.org), Assisport Alto Adige (www.sporthilfe.it) and the Alex Zanardi BIMBINGAMBA Association (www.bimbingamba.com).  These three associations have been friends of the Maratona for many years.

The solidarity project of the Association of Groups "Insieme si può" is connected to people with disabilities in Uganda, one of the poorest countries in the world, where cases of physical impairment are high.

The organisers of the Maratona intend to provide better access to medical treatment, rehabilitation, food and education - particularly to children and teenagers. They intend to support young people, ensure they receive vocational training, assist them in finding a job, ensure they have access to social services and can participate in family and community life.

A final wave of entries will go on sale on 24 March 2016. Again, another 193 registrations will be offered in accordance with the system outlined above.

After the success of the 2015 event and the popularity with the participants of the event apparel, Castelli has renewed its contract with the Maratona for another three years.

Bike manufacturer, Pinarello - another historic partner of the Maratona - has also renewed its support for the Maratona for another three years. The Italian company, supplier of bikes to the winner of the Tour de France on eleven occasions, was keen to celebrate the thirtieth year of Italy's most famous amateur cycling event.
