Wiggle Dragon Ride 2013 Entries Open 1st Nov

by Henry Peacock

Human Race, organisers of one of the UK's most prestigious cyclosportives, the Wiggle Dragon Ride, have today announced that entries for the 2013 event will open at 9am on November 1st.

The event, now in its 10th year, has sold out on every occasion since its inception and last year was full to capacity in less than a day, with 4,500 entrants being lucky enough to secure a place in the South Wales event.

An Extremely Popular Event

The 2012 event started from the picturesque Margam Park, for the first time, and will return to this venue again in 2013. Participants were treated to near perfect cycling conditions as they took on three challenging routes; the Gran Fondo, Medio Fondo and the Corto.

In 2012, both the Gran Fondo and Medio Fondo riders experienced a considerable increase in the amount of climbing, with a slight increase in distance, making it the biggest and toughest Wiggle Dragon Ride yet. Both of these routes will remain the same in the 2013 event.

The Same Route As Last Year Is Being Used

An exciting addition to the event this year is the inclusion of a women-only Cycletta, which will take place on the Corto route and replace the previous Corto option. Cycletta is the UK's leading series of women-only bike rides, supported by Olympic gold medallist Victoria Pendleton and designed for women of all ages and abilities.

With the innovative series visiting Wales for the first time event organisers, Human Race, are expecting this addition will continue to add to the atmosphere and family offering over the weekend, as well as giving women in another part of the UK the chance to take part in the series.

Nick Rusling, CEO of Human Race said, "It continues to be an honour to hold such an incredible event within our portfolio. The Wiggle Dragon Ride is truly special and our aim is to continually improve the event year on year. Over the 10 years of its existence the event has developed an amazing community and reputation, which makes it stand out above all other events and we're tremendously excited to welcome another 5,000 participants in 2013."

Will 2013 Sell Out Like 2012?

Dragon Ride founder, Lou Lusardi, who will be Technical Director on the 2013 event, commented; "The 2012 event proved to be a real challenge for riders, by retaining the same route for 2013 those who struggled in 2012 now know what to expect and can train accordingly, or choose the less demanding but equally rewarding Medio route. Riders will also be able to compare their year on year times over the unchanged routes."

Prostate Cancer UK is the Official Charity Partner of the Wiggle Dragon Ride. Last year over £75,000 was raised and participants are once again encouraged to support this cause.
