On Saturday morning over 3,000 riders started the Mallorca312 - Giant - Taiwan in front of the Hotel Iberostar Playa de Muro. Lead by guest of honour and bib number 312, Sean Kelly, their aim was to complete a 312km circumnavigation of the island in less than 14 hours.

For the sixth consecutive year, the sportive has set a new record for the number of participants from all over the world: Thailand, Bahamas, Turkey, Russia, Argentina, Ukraine, Cayman Islands and the USA were all represented this time.

The first to complete the 312 km route was David Creegan, in 8 hours 52 minutes. Sophie Coleman was the first woman across the line in 9 hours 45 minutes.

At the same time the Mallorca 167 Hürzeler Bicycle Holidays was taking place. This race started and finished at the same point as the Mallorca 312 - Giant - Taiwan, with whom it shared the first 100 kilometers and the main climbs in the Serra de Tramuntana. The rest of the route ran in the north of Mallorca.

On the shorter route riders had 9 hours to arrive to Playa de Muro. Michael Ossieur needed only 4 hours and 50 minutes though, whilst the first female participant, Beth Hernández, made it home in 5 hours and 12 minutes.

Sean Kelly aroused the interest of the participants throughout the race. It was his third participation at short version of the Mallorca312 - Giant - Taiwan and at the finish he promised to be back again. Other famous faces taking part included Joseba Beloki, Pedro Horrillo and Fernando Escartín.

Now in its sixth year, the Mallorca312 has firmly established itself as one of the most prestigious and internationally famous sportives in the world. The incorporation of title partners Giant and Taiwan will only boost this further.

The date for next year's event is 30th April 2016.
