Remember, Remember 5th November: Action Launches 2014 RIDE 100 Series

by Nick Gregory

Cue the fireworks as children's charity Action Medical Research will be launching its popular RIDE100 series of UK road rides on 5th November.

An earlybird discount of 15% will be offered to those who sign up first and riders can register your interest now to be sure of being at the front of the queue when online registration goes live.

The RIDE100 series runs from April to the end of September and features 15 events taking place across the UK in some of the country's most stunning cycling locations.

All events offer a choice of either Classic or Champion routes and most now also include a shorter Cool route, ideal if you are new to road cycling or haven't had time to train. Mid-distance Classic routes are more challenging, while the toughest Champion offering is aimed at experienced sportive riders.

The season kicks off with the Bath 100, which has a fabulous new venue and new routes for 2014, and the Peterborough 100, both on 13 April.

Other highlights include the Suffolk Sunrise and Castle 100 (11 and 18 May), the charity's two most popular rides. The former takes in the flatlands of East Anglia while the latter does the opposite, with tough climbs of the North Downs.

Scottish events the Trossachs Ton and Glasgow 100 have both had makeovers for the 2014 season. New for the Trossachs Ton will be the Double Duke; two ascents of the Duke's Pass on the Champion route and a single Duke in the Classic. The Glasgow 100 also has new routes, taking in the shires south of the city that are dotted with lochs across the rugged landscape.

The Thruxton 100 also returns for a second year, offering a chance to ride against the clock in a unique motor circuit setting.

All rides are fully supported by the Action Medical Research team, with food and water stations, chip timing, marshals and mechanics.

Cyclists riding for the charity raise money to fund medical research to help save and change the lives of sick and disabled babies and children. This year's RIDE100 series has raised more than £500,000.

Action has played a significant role in many medical breakthroughs for over 60 years, starting with the development of the first UK polio vaccines. It is currently funding research into many conditions, including preventing early labour and developing treatments for babies affected by premature birth, helping children with disabilities and tackling rare diseases for which there are currently no cures.

The charity has a passion for cycling and has built up a successful portfolio of events, which also includes the Action London to Paris and the RIDE24 relay race.
