Sportive and training camp organisers, Wheels in Wheels Events have announced a new summer date for the 2014 Forest of Dean Classic sportive in Monmouth. The event will now be held on Sunday 13 July 2014.

Organisers of the Forest of Dean Classic have postponed the event for safety reasons. Due to over-running road works, with no guarantee of completion before the existing May date this weekend, the organisers have been left with no option but to delay the event until the summer. Another event in the area on May 4 means rerouting is not an option either, as this could potentially cause confusion for riders on both events as the routes would cross at several locations. Rider safety and enjoyment on the popular traditional course is paramount for all involved, and the only way to ensure this was to move the date.

The headquarters will also move back to Monmouth town centre where the Classic 90 mile (145km) and newer 62 mile (100km) courses will start and finish. The 90 mile route has always been a tough event, with over 8000ft of climbing on 20 individual hills that are counted down over the length of the course. The 62 mile course is a shorter version of the Classic route but still contains 6000ft of ascent over eight climbs including the infamous 25% grind of Symonds Yat, which comes less than 10 miles from the finish on both courses.
