Rating: 97.3% based on 7 reviews -
The 2016 event is to be held on Sunday 10th July 2016 and incorporates 3 new routes of 70, 42 and 26 miles (112, 67 & 42 kilometers respectively). All routes are hilly, but have fantastic scenery; the good news is that the last 5 miles are mainly downhill with some flat. Energy top-ups are provided by fully-catered village hall feed stations - 3 stops on 70 mile route, 2 on the 42 miler and one on the 26. All routes are fully waymarked.
Entry fee is £20 for the full 70 mile Classic route; £15 for the medium distance route and £10 for the short route (under 16`s Free {any distance}, but must be accompanied by an adult). We prefer on-line entry if possible (click here) but if you are reluctant to trust cyberspace with your payment details there is an entry form you can complete and return to us on the event website.
A list of entrants already booked in can be viewed here.
This is a charity ride - all proceeds after promotion costs will be used to fund local good causes in and around the Kington area. All helpers involved on the day will be volunteers from the Kington Lions Club which is an independent charity under the auspices of the Lions Club Internationalorganisation.
All village hall feed stations will provide hot and cold drinks with cakes, bars etc. In addition, on all routes there will be sandwiches, sausage rolls etc. at the midway feed. If that is not enough snacks are available at the start and warming recovery fodder at the finish (donations welcomed but not insisted upon). The quality of the locally-sourced food is a feature of the event, with flapjacks/home cooked cakes as well as a choice of sandwiches etc and fruit e.g. bananas.
A sag waggon will be sweeping up any breakdowns. A roving motorcycle marshal will be available to assist with mechanical problems. And, at the finish we shall have a professionally trained masseuse to attend to those tired muscles (included in the entry price).
For this ride we have a limit of 300 riders to ensure that all participants are properly catered for, and to ensure that they all enjoy their day out and come back for more next year! We pride ourselves on being hospitable and looking after each rider`s needs and wants (within reason).
There is plenty of good value local accommodation, including aYHA, B&Bs, camp sites and hotels. See this link (click on it) for a detailed list:- Accomodation Listing.
Route maps can be seen on these links, and for those with GPS/Sat -Navs, a .gpx file for you to upload to your kit can be downloaded here (Classic Route) or here (Medium Route)or here (Short Route). This should ensure you stay on-track, at least within 50m or so of the recommended route!
