Welcome to the London Ditchling Devil, a 200km Audax from Wimbledon in South London down to the south coast visiting along the way Ditchling Beacon and The Devils Dyke before coming home to Richmond Park. A great day out suitable for riders of all abilities.

Starting outside the Windmill tearooms in Wimbledon common, we head south out of London across rolling and occasionally bumpy countryside to the first feed stop at Ardingly (50km). then on to the famous Ditchling Beacon, bounce off Brighton and the Devils Dyke to the lunchtime stop at Upper Beeding (105km). Suitably refreshed it's a short fast hop onto Chiddingfold (146km) for some afternoon tea and cake (can you see a pattern here?) and then a gradual climb through the Surrey Hills and the final run home to Cafe at Roehampton Gate, Richmond Park (203km).

The event is organized under Audax 'fast touring' regulations so the focus is on enjoying the day rather than racing round. Audax rules set a minimum and maximum speed of 15 and 30kph but the reality is will not trouble trouble many. Most riders take between 9~12hours to complete the route, including breaks, so there is plenty of time to enjoy the day. Once out of London the route uses minor roads and country lanes with good surfaces suitable for all types of road bikes. There will be a rolling start between 7 & 8am so riders wll leave London in small groups before London wakes up, hopefully on a bright and sunny Sunday morning.

The entry fee includes your Audax Brevet (route card) and Validation, and feed stops at Ardingly Upper Beeding and Chiddingfold. The Ardingley stop is in the layby opposite the South of England Showground main entrance just before Ardingley. The Upper Beeding and Chiddingfold stops are in the local village sports pavilions. The event concludes in Richmond Park at the Roehampton Gate Cafe which will be open late for coffee and snacks. Navigation is by route sheet and a GPX track is available for those with GPS devices..

Riders may enter online via the AUK website or by post, all details on the Audax website.

There is parking available at the start and finish points, but better to leave your car. This is a rare chance for London based riders to leave their car at home and ride to the start of an event.

Getting up in the morning and riding down to the South Coast - and back again - is always a blast.

It's a London thing.
