My first big mountain sportive. Fantastic event - if very hard! - definitely going to do it again.
Make sure you train though! Also, when in the pyrenees, prepare for all weather: day before was 10 degrees and wet on Tourmalet, day of the race sun and 30 degrees...

Brilliant. It was a hot day, my Garmin recorded a max of 34C in the valley. Bit dissappointed with my time. Got to the bottom of Tourmalet in 7 hrs, then bang, blew up big time on the tourmalet. took me 3 hours to get up and over. Still I made it, several thousand unfortunately didn't. It was my first etape, some seasoned riders said it was one of the hardest they had done. Thoroughly recommend having a crack, but make sure you train well, otherwise the mountains will bite!

What a day. The best day i've ever had on a bike. Glorious weather, scenery and atmosphere. What a brute that mountain is.

What can you say. It is unique so is hard to compare to anything else. The only marks I took off were for the manic feed stops (I hear that they ran out of water at the last water stop), poor food at the end (who wants cous cous) and the web site. It was in English as well as French which was very helpful but there were things on the French version that weren't on the English version which was confusing.

Other than that it ran like clockwork. And I don't think there is a prettier route with a more stunning view at the end anywhere in the world.

Feed stations had alimited choice, so carry your own bars/gels. Timing ? did anyone else find that their time was recorded from when the first person started and not when you went over the start mat ? Otherwise best day ever on a bike, would recommend it to anyone, just be in the form of your life or you will regret it.
