However, calling it the "South Downs" sportive is misleading: "Sussex Weald" would be a more accurate description, as the course only skirts the South Downs and instead spends much of its time in the lovely but testing wooded hills and valleys of the Low and High Weald - and it's all the better for that. The organisers excelled themselves in designing and signposting an intricate course that took us over quiet roads with generally good surfaces in beautiful surroundings, with marshals where main roads were crossed. Good feed stops, friendly support, and a pleasant race HQ. The most enjoyable sportive I've done.
