Audax cyclists riding a 1000 km randonnee

The LEJOG 1400 AUDAX is a 1400 km cycling event organised by Burnley CC, and sanctioned by Audax UK, due to take place between 18-23 July 2021.

The event is a randonnee, not a race. Those taking part will have a maximum of 116 hours & 40 minutes to complete the challenging 1402 km randonnee.

The 1400 km Audax starts at the headland of Land's End, Cornwall, the far south-western corner of the UK mainland and finishes at the village of John o' Groats, the far north-eastern corner of the UK mainland, following a popular route known nationwide as the "End to End"!

Riders will be expected to maintain a minimum cycling average speed of at least 12 kph including anytime off the bike. The route doesn't take the most direct route between Cornwall and the Highlands but uses a combination of A-roads; B-roads and country lanes whilst passing through England; Wales and Scotland.

Controls will be placed at roughly 50-mile intervals but 4 of the controls - placed at roughly 290 km intervals - which the riders are expected to use overnight, will have adequate eating; showering and sleeping facilities.

Each and every rider will need to make their own way to the start at Land's End and also home from John o' Groats after finishing.

Further travel advice can be found on the event website (see below).

Eating during the event

A pre-planned buffet will be held the night before the event at a nearby village hall. Free food will be available at the 4 overnight controls. Food & drink will be available for purchase at the intermediate controls.

Showers & sleeping during the event

We've reserved bunkhouse/outdoor centres for use over the 4 nights of the event (Somerset; Cheshire; Renfrewshire; Highlands), where showers and basic sleeping facilities will be available. Ear-plugs will also be provided. All the facilities at the overnight controls are included in the entry fee.

A drop-bag to the first 3 controls is included in the entry fee. The way this works is quite simple: each rider can fill up to 3 bags with clean clothes etc, drop them off at the start at Land's End and we'll transport 1 of each of the 3 bags to the first 3 overnight controls. When you've passed through the overnight controls, we'll collect the bags and transport them onto the finish at John o' Groats.

Most riders will likely use a standard road bike. Tandems; tricycles; elliptigo's & recumbant's are all permitted providing the bike is propelled solely by human muscular effort. n.b. if riding a tandem both riders must enter individually!

Entry fee: 146 when entering online through PayPal on the AUK event entry page. n.b. non-AUK/CTC/CUK members, along with foreign entrants will see 3 automatically added to include temporary membership of AUK for insurance purposes for the duration of the event.
