SNOWDROP AND SUNRISE EXPRESS

The Beacon RCC February Audaxes are now well established on the Audax calendar, attracting over 150 participants each year. the Sunrise Express and the Snowdrop Express, are both 123km in length and they follow the same route, but travelling in opposite directions. The start times are staggered as follows to give riders a choice and to ease congestion at the HQ:

Event

Start Time

Route

Sunrise Express

08.30

123km clockwise

Snowdrop Express

09.00

123km anti-clockwise

Some riders our event provides a wonderful opportunity to enjoy rural Worcestershire on a crisp winters day. For others it provides the perfect motivation to get out with friends when they might otherwise be tempted to stay indoors. In recent years we have also been delighted to welcome several local racing men and women who used it for steady winter training.

We hope you find everything you need to know about the Beacons February Audaxes in these pages. If you have any further questions please contact the organiser below. For details of what an Audax ride entails see our website at: http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/audax/express/events.html

Remember that this is an audax, routes are waymarked with signs or by marshals. All riders will be provided with route cards to help with their navigation. GPS downloads are also available from the Beacon website.

Finishing times are not published and the event is not a race. Riders will need to make sure that they ride between 15 and 30kph average to finish.

HQ

The HQ is at the Hartlebury Trading Estate Cafe [map]. Please note that the arrow on this map shows the location of the cafe within the trading estate. While the cafe is near the north entrance to the estate you should approach via the south entrance [map] as this will avoid a complex one-way system within the trading estate. Please note that both routes take cyclists out of the north entrance but return via the south entrance as the north gate is closed after lunch (so you will also need to leave via the south gate following the event). If you are using a SatNav, postcode DY10 4JB should get you within the trading estate via the south entrance from which you should follow the twists and turns of the trading estates main access road for a further 1/2 mile.

From the North: Travelling from Kidderminster on the A449, ignore the signs for Hartlebury village and continue to a roundabout south of Hartlebury. Take the first exit, left, into Crown Lane, signposted Hartlebury Trading Estate. Continue for approximately 1 mile, pass under a railway bridge, then turn left into the trading estate. Follow the twists and turns of the trading estates main access road for a further 1/2 mile. The cafe is a one-storey brick building on the left beside a large open car park.

From the South: Travelling from Ombersley/Worcester on the A449, proceed past Dunhampton and Crossway Green to a roundabout at the top of a rise. Take the third exit, right, into Crown Lane, signposted Hartlebury Trading Estate. Continue for approximately 1 mile, pass under a railway bridge, then turn left into the trading estate. Follow the twists and turns of the trading estates main access road for a further 1/2 mile. The cafe is a one-storey brick building on the left beside a large open car park.

HQ Facilities: The HQ is at the Hartlebury Industrial Estate cafe which always provides a warm welcome to cyclists. A wide variety of hot food is on sale at very reasonable prices. Toilets are available.

Parking: There is ample parking at the HQ. Please follow the instructions of the marshals.

Refreshments

Before the Event: The HQ will be open from 7am and you are welcome to purchase hot drinks and food.

Refreshments After the Event: On completion of the ride you will be given a FREE food voucher that will entitle you to:

  • A mug of tea or coffee
  • Beans on toast or any other food on the menu to the same value
  • A slice of home-made cake.

Controls: Please be aware that we have asked the cafes on our event whether they are willing to host a control. However cyclists riding the event arrive as normal customers and should use the cafe with normal courtesy. Very large numbers of riders may arrive at the same time and, despite the notice they are given, this may stretch the cafe staff to their limit. Please be patient, understand the situation the cafes are in and show due consideration to their non-cycling customers.

  • Raphaels Cafe, Evesham is a delightful cyclist friendly cafe on the banks of the River Avon serving a variety of hot & cold food.
  • Bridge House Tea Rooms, Upton upon Severn has hosted our control for a couple of years now and the proprietors are very familiar with hungry cyclists needs.
