Welsh Wheeler 200

21/06/2019 - Llanidloes, Powys - Multi-Day

Rating: Rate this Event Now

Ride 1 starts out from Llanidloes along quiet Sustrans routes following the rivers Severn and Wye almost from their very source. Climb a tough hill to reach the top of the Elan Vallet with its moon-like landcape before descending an Alpine-style winding road through the forests to lunch. The afternoon takes you on quiet roads passing scenery little changed in centuries before returning to Llanidloes.

Ride 2 starts with some steady but challenging climbing out of Llanidloes and continues before a wonderful 8-mile descent into Machynlleth. Cross the river and follow the estuary with its wild flowers and train line that clings to the edge perilously, pass through quiet fishing villages and then head inland along a Snowdonia valley to the foot of the towering Cadair Idris where lunch awaits. Climb again breifly after lunch and drop back into Machynlleth before taking on the 8-mile climb you descended earlier that day. From the top it's a gentle roll back through ancient forests.

Ride 3 moves to a new start not far away in Welshpool and quickly heads out into the countryside, climbing and descending past Offa's Dyke, the famous Stiperstones and finally summiting on the Long Mynd where the views stretch for miles in every direction. After descending, it's a short roll to lunch and a mix of quiet roads and Sustrans routes leads you home.

All balance cycling events are designed to feel like a cross between a sportif and a touring holiday. Ultimately, we aim to provide you with a highly sociable group ride where you get to make great new friends whilst also enjoying the best scenery that Britain has to offer.

Rides are fully supported with our van for first aid, mechanical assistance and tasty feed stations with homemade food, as well as having support riders to help all speeds and fitness levels. Tasty lunches at tea rooms or cafes are included and we organise evening meals (not included in the event entry fee) if you want to socialise with new friends and reminisce about the adventures of the day. All riders receive medals and we give out spot prizes during evening meals for special highlights of the day.
