It's a good route (80 miles) with four medium hills, a few tricky descents and great scenery.

The worst weather I have ever ridden a bike in but still an enjoyable event, character building is the apt phrase I think. I was a bit concerned about the amount of miles on A roads but in the event the only traffic problems were coming back through Elgin (the eejit in the grey Mitie van). Two feeds for 80 miles was plenty and water, bananas and caramel squares were great and thanks to the ladies who manned the stations in terrible weather in the middle of nowhere. I was delighted with my wee dram at the finish and I think I deserved the medal. With better weather this would be a great ride and I look forward to next year.

Good points: Excellent route directions, interesting route, good marshalling, great to see the escort group on m'bikes
Room for improvement:
*A 'no choice' £1.50 surcharge when entering (should have been part of the entry)
*Age groups and clubs not published on start list
*Some directions for the event HQ would have been useful.
*The split between the registration, parking & start didn't really work, they need to be closer. The registration was in a fairly dingy room.
*Electronic timing? There wasn't any (as promised on website)
*A small printed route map would have been useful.
*Scottish Sportive Series? Again on website but no further mention. What is it, where is it?
*First feed too far (3 hours) from start, I never made it because of the weather
* The start just seemed really downbeat and lack any event atmosphere although to be fair it was a pretty dreich day
*I was a DNF which is presumably why I didn't get my 'event momento'
