A well established sportive, with routes designed by fellow cyclists for your enjoyment, and to raise money for local good causes. The Registration, Start and Finish is at Dumfries Rugby Club on the western outskirts of Dumfries.
Compared to most of the UK, traffic levels in Dumfries and Galloway are light which makes for relaxing and enjoyable cycling.
The routes initially head South towards the conservation village of New Abbey. Continue through New Abbey, past Sweetheart Abbey and along the coast with views across the Solway to the Lake District. Then past the entrance to RSPB Mersehead reserve and on to Dalbeattie. All routes go straight ahead to the village of Haugh of Urr (feed stop) where the Yellow 40 mile route turns right onto NCR 7 back to Dumfries.
The Blue 75 mile and Red 100 mile routes turn left up a stiff climb towards Castle Douglas. Through the edge of town via Greenlaw to Laurieston, then via Mossdale to New Galloway (feed stop). The Blue 75 mile route goes straight on to cross the A713 road and up a longish climb past Balmaclellan. Then across the moors to Corsock (feed stop) via Crocketford to Milton where it joins the Yellow route back to Dumfries.
The Red 100 mile route turns left in New Galloway up a stiff climb, followed by a glorious descent to join the A713 for Cairsphairn (feed stop). Then via Knowhead (great road !!) to Dalry for another climb (sorry) and descent to join the Blue route part way up the climb at Balmaclellan. The Tour of Britain 2019 used this section as part of the Stage 1 route.
